Shoshone's Maternal DNA is one of the oldest Native American Lineages in the Southeast as confirmed through DNA testing. Shoshone's ancestors were some of the last remnant Native American Families left in Anson County, NC, just over the SC border.

She descends from several tribes. She used her research, Family oral history, some genealogical research and DNA testing to help her in preserving and documenting her Native American Heritage.
"I feel that any knowledge of our people would have been lost after my generation had I not made the effort to document and preserve the knowledge of who our people were. There were many smaller tribes in the Carolinas that were almost wiped out....forgotten. I don't mean only physically but on paper as well. That is what we call paper genocide. I want to thank my mother for teaching me and telling me all that we know of who our people were. DNA testing was a great help in confirming that. With the breakthrough in modern technology we are learning new things everyday about ourselves and the past. We cannot correct all that went wrong in long ago, but we can preserve our heritage for future generations to come. One day when my son picks a book, he can read about his Native American ancestors and that yes we are still here. “People of the First Nations."
